Saigon Sandwich
Introducing Saigon Sandwich: a delightful gem nestled at 560 Larkin St in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. This cafe specializes in Vietnamese sandwiches, notably the renowned Banh Mi. Known for its authentic flavors and speedy service, Saigon Sandwich has made a significant mark in the local food scene.
As a food reviewer at Cafe Encore, I was excited to delve into the offerings of this beloved sandwich shop. Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the unassuming charm of the space—a reminder that the best culinary experiences often come from humble origins. The atmosphere buzzed with the energy of customers eagerly awaiting their orders, a testament to the popularity of this establishment.
- Top Selling Sandwhich: The Banh Mi Thit Cha Pate Special Combination Sandwich is an absolute must-try for first-timers. Priced at just $9.00, this sandwich features a decadent blend of roast pork, steamed pork, and creamy pate—all paired with a crispy French baguette. It’s generously adorned with fresh cilantro, jalapeños, and pickled carrots with onions, creating a perfect balance of flavors.
- Crispy Snacks: Complementing the sandwiches is the selection of snacks, including the Shrimp Flavored Chips, which are light and crunchy with a subtle seafood taste. These are delightful accompaniments that elevate the overall experience.
Many patrons rave about Saigon Sandwich, with comments highlighting the speed of service and the authenticity of the food. One customer remarked, "I've never seen a sandwich made so fast and be so delicious," an apt description of the efficiency paired with mouthwatering results. The inclusion of a variety of meats—like pork belly and roast chicken—ensures there is something for everyone, whether you’re a lifelong fan of Vietnamese cuisine or a newcomer eager to explore.
The atmosphere imbues a sense of community. Despite its location in the Tenderloin, with its unique character, the shop welcomes anyone willing to embrace a culinary adventure. As noted by one satisfied customer, "it is very cheap... but the taste was exquisite." This sentiment echoes throughout numerous reviews, emphasizing not just the affordability but the exceptional quality of each dish.
Moreover, the shop proudly serves Vietnamese iced coffee, adding a rich, caffeinated twist to the experience. Pairing this with your sandwich is a game-changer, enhancing the meal with a refreshing kick that lingers on the palate.
In conclusion, Saigon Sandwich stands out not only for its scrumptious offerings but for the passion that radiates through every bite. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or seeking solace in a familiar meal, this eatery is undeniably worthy of exploration—and ideally equipped to become a staple in your culinary journey.

I've never seen a sandwich made so fast and be so delicious. Authentic, down home bahn mi shop. Best in the city maybe. Great Thai coffee too!

Amazing Bang Mi at very reasonable price (5.50 each at the time of this post). It's located in the Tenderloin but it's well worth the trip. If you're squeamish about the area, get to Larkin x Market and go up Larkin and it's a few blocks behind the civic center buildings on the right side. Take out and cash only. It's a very small place so a line can suddenly form out the door, but they are pretty quick - just have your order ready.

This sandwich place is very unassuming but it is definitely one of the most worthwhile sandwiches that I’ve eaten. It is very cheap at 7 but the taste was exquisite. The pate made everything taste better. It does not feel dry at all unlike the Bahn Mi’s that I’ve had before. Btw, I bought the Pork Belly Pate combo and it was the rightest decision that I’ve made in my life. Also the shop is in the hood but that made the experience more real and authentic. I love this sandwich.

For the roast pork banh mi. Affordable, great portions and very kind staff. Maybe not the most authentic but for the price, quantity and flavor I have no complaints. It is cash only!
